We already know that content is important. It helps your brand show up, stand out and stay front of mind. But staying switched on all the time isn’t the flex we once thought it was.

As digital marketers and remote biz owners, we’re lucky, creative, remote, ever-connected. But even the most seasoned scroller needs a breather now and then. This weekend, I took some much-needed time offline. A digital detox by the water reminded me just how essential disconnecting is for creativity, clarity, and wellbeing.

And the best bit? Thanks to scheduling tools, automation, and a bit of forward planning, everything still ticked along nicely.

Tools like Metricool, Buffer or Later let you plan, post and even auto-respond with helpful DMs; meaning you can focus on being present without missing a beat online. Smart, right?

Now, back to business. Let’s take a look at what’s been happening across the social media space this past week…

⍋ LinkedIn Dips into TikTok Territory

LinkedIn is testing a new “video trends” feature that encourages members to post their take on trending topics using short videos.

  • The format is similar to its collaborative articles tool

  • You'll be prompted to “Add to this trend” and record directly from the ap

  • A gentle nudge towards more organic, personal content on LinkedIn.

Big picture: LinkedIn continues to blend professional insights with a creator-style feel and short-form video is clearly the next frontier.

⍋ Instagram's ‘Edits’ App Drops This Month

Meta’s long-teased CapCut-style editing app for Reels is nearly here. “Edits” officially lands 30 April and is now available to pre-download. It promises:

  • Precision project management for video clips

  • A “cutouts” tool to isolate objects or people

  • A “Made with Edits” tag so others can trace your creative process

For creators juggling glitchy third-party apps, this might be a game changer.

⍋ Reposts Are Coming to Your Instagram Feed

Instagram is gradually rolling out the option to repost Reels and posts directly to the feed, not just Stories. This is great news for reach, especially when used intentionally as part of a curated content strategy. You can even add your own caption to give context or start a conversation — just like a regular post.

⍋ YouTube Shorts: Now With Extra Spice

YouTube’s latest updates to Shorts include:

  • A refreshed video editing UI

  • Automated beat-synching to music

  • AI stickers and new templates

With Shorts continuing to see growth in user engagement, it’s clear YouTube is doubling down on making content creation smoother and more dynamic.

⍋ Facebook’s Friends Tab Makes a Comeback

In an effort to return to its roots, Facebook has brought back the OG Friends tab, a space for seeing updates just from friends, not suggested content or pages.

It’s giving throwback. But also? It's a small win for those craving more authenticity and less algorithm.

In Summary…

Between scheduling your content and scheduling your rest, the digital space is always on the move.

This week’s updates show a clear direction: more video, more creativity tools, more ways to stay connected without burning out.

So whether you’re pre-downloading Edits, recording a LinkedIn trend response, or simply taking your shoes off by the sea for a few hours. Remember that your best content comes when you’re well-rested enough to create it.

Until next week!

Keep growing, Chelsea x
